✽ How to guide
Grow your own
The following guide aims to help you get the most out of your grow kit! At Tio Mushrooms, we guarantee at least one flush of mushrooms per bag, with it being likely to get more depending on the storage conditions of the bag. There is likely to be between approximately 500-800g of mushrooms per kit.
1
Prepare the Bag
- Cut a small hole at the top of the grow kit.
- Gently squeeze out all the air.
- Roll down the flap and flip the bag upside down. The goal is to remove as much air as possible and ensure the bag is completely sealed, no openings exposed to the air.
2
Find a Good Spot
Find a Good Spot
- Place your kit indoors, somewhere with good airflow and indirect sunlight (avoid direct sun).
- Now cut a flap on one of the sides of the bag: about 6cm across and 5cm down on each side. This will be the area where the mushrooms grow.
3
Start Misting
- Using a spray bottle or mister, spray the cut area with 3–4 sprays, twice a day.
- Keep this area moist but not soaked, this helps encourage mushroom growth.
4
Keep an Eye Out for Pins
- Once you see small mushroom "pins" (baby mushrooms) forming, increase misting.
- Mushrooms love humidity! Mist gently and more frequently, just don't drench them.
5
Harvest Time
- Harvest when the mushrooms stop doubling in size and the edges of the caps look thin and wavy.
-
To pick, firmly grip the cluster at the base, twist and pull, they should pop right off.
- Signs they’re ready:
- Slowed growth
- Caps starting to curl and thin at the edges
6
Cook & Enjoy
- Time to eat! Oyster mushrooms are super versatile.
- One of our favourite ways? Pan-fried in butter with garlic. Simple and delicious.
7
Grow More!
- You can repeat steps 2 to 4 up to three times to get additional flushes.
- After each harvest, give the kit around 2 weeks to rest. (Sometimes longer depending on temperature and humidity.)
8
Don’t Toss It - Compost It!
- Once your kit is finished, use the leftover material in your garden or compost.
- It’s great for the soil, and you might even spot a few more mushrooms popping up!
